Little Green Fingers Newsletter

2026 has just started and we have a lot to share!

2026 is such an exciting year for everyone on the Little Green Fingers Team. Schools around Europe have begun piloting the LGF project with students between 4 and 8 and have been doing an amazing job! We will give you a sneak peak below on what the student have been up to!

The Story so far…

A lot of preparation and training have gone ahead of this pilot stage to make sure the students get as much as possible from the project. Let's recap what has led us to this point.

Research

The LGF team delved into the educational systems in each participating country and looked at how our project might fit in.

Surveys

Educators, parents, community members and other stakeholders told us about what they wanted from the project.

Development

The LGF team got to work creating resources and training materials.

Training

Educators from around Europe gathered in Brussels to learn about the project, connect with each other and share experiences that will help make the project a success.

Feedback and Recap

After getting feedback from the educators, the LGF team made some tweaks to the curriculum before a recap meeting with the group last September.

Educators are ready to go! This amazing group of educators were now ready to roll out the pilot with their students. Let's see how it went!

Every school and preschool was slightly different but…

Across all twenty schools and preschools who are taking part, the students started by exploring their school grounds. They used their senses to investigate the plants and animals living in their grounds and the spaces that exist for them to play in. This sets the groundwork for them to develop new ideas.

Check out this nature table created by Chalkoutsa Primary School in Cyprus.

After learning more about their grounds, the animals that might live there or the classmates that play there, students started to work in groups to think about either: what new homes they could create for an animal or what new kind of play space they could make for their friends.

Quotes from teachers

Students have not been working alone. Each school has created a Co Design Lab!

These have been made up of parents, families, educators and community members.

The Co Design Labs have helped develop ideas and bring them to life along the way.

Amazing ideas and models

Students have come up with lots of great ideas for new homes for animals, like this new habitat for a ladybird. This model was created with all natural materials by the children in Gaelscoil Raifteiri in Mayo, Ireland.

Children all around Europe have been blowing us away with their creativity and problem solving abilities. There have been tons of great ideas developed!

Presenting Skills!

Children have also been trying out their presentation skills and developing their powers of persuasion! Can they convince their classmates and members of the Co Design Lab to make real life versions of their models??

We can't wait to share the final results of the project with you!!
